Replacing a windshield in Canada will generally cost between $200 and $500, including labour, with the average cost around $300. If you have a luxury car, the cost can get up to $1,000 and above, especially if your vehicle uses advanced driver-assistance systems.
Factors That Affect Windshield Replacement Costs
The Region of Canada You’re In
The cost of replacing a windshield can depend on where you live in Canada. If you live in a more remote or northern area where shipping is more expensive, it’s going to cost more. Or if supply is limited in your area, prices will be higher.
Make and Model of your Vehicle
The style, type, and size of your vehicle will also affect the cost.
A windshield for a large pickup truck will cost more than a smaller hatchback most of the time. And if you have a newer vehicle with the latest technology or a unique model where windshields are harder to come by, that will cost a premium.
Auto Glass Features
If your vehicle has special features in the windshield like condensation and rain sensors, tinting strips, unique moulding or Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems like lane-keeping assist or automatic emergency braking, that will cost more than a more simple, no-frills model.

An OEE or Original Equipment Equivalent windshield is made by a third-party manufacturer. These “aftermarket” windshields will have pretty close to the same design measurements and quality, with slight variation.
OEE or aftermarket windshields cost considerably less than OEM ones.
Other Damage
If the damage to your windshield, for example if you were in an accident, extends beyond the glass to other parts of the frame or involves advanced sensors, your windshield replacement will likely cost more.
Does Insurance Cover Windshield Replacement?
If you have comprehensive auto insurance coverage, a windshield that needs to be replaced because of damage is often covered. This is especially true if it’s from vandalism, accidents, or some extreme weather event. Check with your provider though—not all comprehensive policies cover glass.
Also check your deductible. That can make a difference on if it makes sense to file a claim.
If you don’t have comprehensive coverage, you’ll need to pay out of pocket.

How Is A Windshield Replaced?

Next, the technician will apply a urethane adhesive to the frame. This adhesive secures the windshield and keeps it in place even if you’re in a collision.
Then, the new windshield is positioned precisely on the vehicle’s frame. Having the new windshield properly aligned will prevent leaks and gaps that would otherwise be unsafe.
Once your new windshield is installed, the adhesive will take about 60 minutes to cure before you can safely drive the vehicle. If your car has Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems, the technician will need to recalibrate that as well.
How Long Does it Take to Replace a Windshield?
A windshield replacement typically takes 1-2 hours. You’ll also need to wait another hour for the adhesive to cure. Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems recalibration will also take another 30 minutes to an hour.
